Lowest Childhood Obesity Rates in Oregon

Posted by Anthony Robinson

Oregon has come in as the state with the lowest childhood obesity rate as Michelle Obama continues her campaign to fight for healthier children.

Of the 16% of children between 10-17 being classified as obese in 2007, Mississippi is home to at least 1/5 of these individuals.

On the other hand, Oregon had under 10% of responsibility for the high childhood obesity numbers within the country.

However, researchers have not determined the key formula that deceases the obesity rate, making Oregon’s much lower than other states. One thing is certain, the state has enforced laws that monitor nutrition within schools as well as nutritional displays at major food chains within the state.

Determining why Oregon’s obesity rates are low can shine light on what needs to be done to decrease the rates in other states, thereby, decreasing rates for the entire country.
